There are really two different mission conversations in GTA 5, and mixing them up causes most of the confusion. Story Mode has its own progress tracker, while GTA Online keeps growing through separate operations. Players comparing routes, heist choices, or ready-made GTA 5 Accounts (https://www.u4gm.com/gta5/accounts) should treat the Kortz Center Heist as Online content, not as a new chapter in Michael, Franklin, and Trevor's campaign. It does not add to the Story Mode mission total, even though it has a full scouting phase, prep work, and a big finale.
What the Story Count Actually Means
The campaign officially records 69 Story Mode missions. That's the number most players see in their stats. But a normal save can show more playable jobs because some heist setups appear only after you pick an approach, and a few side-style missions still matter to the wider story. You can't see every branch in one uninterrupted run. The ending choice works the same way: only one becomes your save's outcome, though mission replay lets you revisit the others later.

Story Route Tips That Save Time
The early run goes from Prologue and Franklin and Lamar through Repossession, Complications, Father/Son, and Pulling Favors. Don't skip Pulling Favors because it looks like a side activity. It can hold up progression. After Casing the Jewel Store, choose either the loud rifle setup or the smart Bugstars route. Later, the same pattern comes back with Merryweather, the Bureau Raid, and The Big Score. The Hotel Assassination is required, but the other Lester jobs are better left until after the story if you want more cash to work with. Before choosing Something Sensible, The Time's Come, or The Third Way, make a manual save. You'll be glad you did.
Kortz Center Planning and Solo Runs
The Kortz Center job starts with reconnaissance, then asks you to pick infiltration gear, an unmarked weapon package, and an escape vehicle. Access Code and Hacking Device jobs are mandatory. Guard Shipments, Guard Routes, Glass Cutter, Power Drills, and EMP Charges are optional. For a quiet solo attempt, the Staff Key Card, Security Loadout, and Annihilator Stealth make sense, with Guard Routes useful while you're still learning patrols. There's a catch, though. A buyer-request item may appear in a two-player area, so a solo Elite run can be dead before the finale even begins. That's not a skill issue; it's bad target placement.
Replay Value, Pressure, and Payouts
Kortz is at its best when prep changes what happens inside: routes reveal guards, shipments weaken security, and cutters open display cases. The laser room is less reliable. GTA movement can feel a bit loose when the game wants tiny, exact steps, so short inputs beat jumping. Weekly rewards also make replay planning matter more than it used to. If you're deciding which jobs deserve another run, checking payout timing and available GTA 5 Money buy (https://www.u4gm.com/gta5/money) options can help, but the smarter move is still picking a route you can complete cleanly and quickly.
